Claude Debussy (1862-1918)
French, Late Romantic period
Clair de Lune (Moonlight)
Arabesque no. 1
Later in his life, Debussy began experimenting with sounds outside of what was typical for the Romantic period, paving the way for other 20th century composers. For example, "Voiles" (Sails, or Veils) makes extensive use of the whole-tone scale.
