Minimalism
Philip Glass is one of the best known pioneers of the minimalist movement, which sought to simplify what had become a very complex and at times inaccessible world of art and music. Minimalist music typically takes a single idea and repeats it over a long period of time, with development occurring gradually. Far from being boring, this has the curious effect of amplifying the power of even slight changes, and the repetition can, in gentler pieces, produce a profound, dreamlike, and calming effect.
